Motyka Dannin Foundation Forgivable Loan Guidelines

The Motyka Dannin Osteopathic Educational Foundation, Inc.  (Motyka Dannin Foundation) was formed at the initiative of the Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA) to raise and distribute funds primary in support of osteopathic medicine.  This includes scholarships, grants for research, seminars, and similar programs. Scholarships are provided in the form of forgivable loans.

The recipient of the 2024 forgivable loan will be awarded and recognized during the Awards Presentation at IOA's 2024 Winter Update on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Indianapolis.  

 Forgivable Loan Program:

  1. Scope:  Initially the Motyka Dannin Foundation intends to offer a forgivable loan of up to $10,000 each year to an osteopathic medical student selected by the Board of Directors of the Foundation. 

  1. Qualifications for the Forgivable Loan:

  • Be an Indiana resident who is attending an osteopathic medical school in the United States *or* a student of the Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM);
  • Be a member of the Indiana Osteopathic Association;
  • Be enrolled as a second (OMS-II) or third (OMS-III) year osteopathic medical student in good standing;
  • Provide one letter of good standing from the Dean or their designee;
  • Present two letters of recommendation;
  • Submit an application that includes an essay and list of accomplishments;
  • Intend to practice in Indiana following completion of a residency in family medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, general internal medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, general pediatrics, or obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) for not less than 24 months.

Forgivable Loan Agreement:  The student selected for the forgivable loan shall be required to practice family medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, general internal medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, general pediatrics, or obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) in Indiana for not less than 24 months (“Commitment Period”) following Residency.  The student must also maintain membership in the IOA for those two years. In the event the student fails to complete the commitment period, the student shall be required to make full repayment of the Forgivable Loan.
